Manchester City go top of the Premier League after a 1-0 win over Burnley, level on points with Arsenal...
Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night, April 22.
CBI News reports that City headed into the match still feeling the effects of their 2-1 win against Arsenal just days earlier.
The decisive moment came early, as Erling Haaland scored in the sixth minute after a precise assist from Jeremy Doku, calmly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to give City the lead.
Despite controlling possession for much of the game, City were unable to add to their advantage and had to remain disciplined to secure all three points.
The win takes Pep Guardiola’s side to the top of the table on goals scored, with both City and Arsenal level on 70 points and a goal difference of +37.
Speaking after the match, manager Pep Guardiola admitted the tight schedule made the game challenging.
“We did everything after a demanding game three days ago. So it was demanding. It wasn’t easy. We missed some goals here,” Guardiola said.
“No frustration. Why should I be frustrated? We are right now top of the table. Frustration doesn’t exist.
“Of course, we can do better and score goals. The guys did absolutely everything, we just didn’t score [more]. Nothing was taken for granted, we did really well.”
