Got plans in Enugu North this Saturday? You might need to reschedule – the government just slammed a 6am-to-6pm curfew across 6 LGAs for the by-election.
Hey, quick heads up if you’re in Enugu North Senatorial District. The Enugu State Government has ordered a full restriction on both people and vehicles moving around this Saturday because of the by-election.
As reported by cbinews.tv, the lockdown covers Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani. It kicks off at midnight – that’s 12am sharp – and runs right through to 6pm.
Not everyone is stuck though. INEC officials, security personnel, accredited election observers, media practitioners, and anyone else with official election duties can still move around. Everyone else? Security agencies have been told to enforce the restriction strictly.
In a statement released on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, residents were urged to stay calm, behave peacefully, and follow electoral guidelines when voting. The government also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to keep things lawful before, during and after the polls.
The state government thanked everyone for their cooperation and wished Enugu North a peaceful and successful election.
So yeah, if you’re in any of those 6 LGAs, sort out your errands before midnight Friday or wait till after 6pm Saturday.
