Tension in Udi! What was supposed to be a quiet Sunday service in Enugu turned into a nightmare after gunmen stormed a church and abducted three worshippers.

You can breathe a little easier — one of them is now safe.

According to cbinews.tv, joint security operatives in Enugu State have rescued one of the three persons abducted during that scary early-morning attack on a church in Inoyi, Affa Community, Udi Local Council.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the community in shock.

But the good news is, security agents didn't waste time. In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, a joint team made up of police operatives, Forest Guards and the Neighbourhood Watch Group immediately launched a rescue operation.

They gave the suspects a hot chase and closed in on them so tightly that the gunmen were forced to abandon one victim — who was rescued unhurt. Sadly, they still escaped into the bush with the other two victims.

Now, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, is not taking it lightly. He has ordered the Area Commander in Oji-River and the head of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to throw everything they've got into the operation to rescue the remaining two and arrest the culprits.

He also directed the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) to generate actionable human and technical intelligence, while the surveillance and technical capabilities of the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre have been fully activated.

The CP is appealing to residents to stay calm and support the operation with credible information, assuring everyone that every available resource is being deployed to bring the remaining victims home safely and bring the perpetrators to justice.
