68 passengers just walked away from a proper scare at Benin Airport.
It could have been a very different story, but thankfully everyone is safe. According to cbinews.tv, an Enugu Airlines aircraft with registration 5N-ENR crash-landed at Benin Airport on Thursday afternoon.
The plane was on a commercial Enugu-Benin-Lagos flight and had 68 passengers on board, plus the crew. A source at Benin Airport told us the aircraft overshot the runway and ended up in the nearby bush. “The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) immediately swung into action, and all the passengers were evacuated. No casualty was recorded,” the source said. The source couldn’t confirm the exact number of crew members on board at the time.
For now, the cause of the runway overshoot hasn’t been disclosed, but investigations will likely follow.
68 people on board and not a single life lost — that’s the bit we’re grateful for today.
