The man behind the empire is a year older — and Baywood is rolling out the drums.
It's not every day your boss gets described as an Emperor, a mentor, and a pathfinder all at once. But today is that day.
The entire Baywood Group family — from CBI Digital Media to CBI News — is celebrating its Executive Vice Chairman and founder, Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe, as he marks another birthday.
And trust us, this is more than just cake and balloons in the Lagos office.
Ask anyone inside Baywood, and they will tell you the same thing. The official message from staff said it best:
“You have been more than a boss — you are a mentor, a pathfinder, and an inspiration to all of us. Your vision, resilience, leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence continue to drive the Baywood Group to greater heights.”
That is classic Baywood Ibe. The staff don't call him Emperor for nothing — it's a title that reflects both his traditional influence and the sheer respect he commands in the boardroom.
FROM ISU-AWAA TO A BILLION-NAIRA CONGLOMERATE:
Born in Enugu State and hailing from Isu-Awaa in Awgu Local Government Area, Emperor Ibe had his early education at Central Primary School, Isu-Awaa and Colliery Comprehensive Secondary School, Ngwo, before heading to Belgrade for higher education in Quantity Surveying.
In 1989 — 37 years ago — he returned to Nigeria and started Baywood Continental Limited as a small procurement company. Fast forward to today and that one company has birthed a full-blown conglomerate: Baywood Exploration, ZB Joint Ventures Limited, Tropical Arctic Logistics Ltd (TAL) — the aviation arm — and more.
His client list reads like a Who's Who of the oil and gas industry: NNPC, Chevron, Total, Shell, ExxonMobil. In 2016, he was honoured with the prestigious Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria Fellowship for his contribution to the Nigerian economy.
And he has never forgotten home. In 2014, he founded Save Awgu Forum Enugu (SAFE) to drive education and development in his community.
This birthday is particularly significant. In November 2025, Emperor Ibe launched CBI News in Lagos — a digital-first platform built to tackle what he calls the trust crisis in Nigerian media.
As he said at the launch, “CBI News is not just another news platform; it is a commitment — a commitment to truthful reporting, to elevating storytelling, and to rebuilding trust in journalism.”
The platform is the brainchild of Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe, Founder and Chief Executive of Baywood Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in Digital Media, Technology, Energy, Infrastructure, and Financial Services.
