Kano State deploys heightened security and modifies processions to ensure safe Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Kano State has confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, will lead the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) this Eid-el-Fitr as security is tightened across the state.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the government, under Governor Abba Yusuf, received intelligence of potential attempts to disrupt law and order during the festivities.
While the state remains committed to preserving its rich cultural heritage, the statement emphasized that maintaining peace, law, and order, as well as safeguarding lives and property, remains paramount.
The Emir will lead the traditional Durbar procession from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa of the Kano Emir’s Palace.
Other processions, including Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi, have been suspended, while Hawan Nasarawa will proceed in a modified form without horseback riding to ensure public safety.
All security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance, enforce directives, and prevent any breaches of peace during the festive period. Residents were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security officials, and avoid spreading unverified information.
CBI News reports that the government commended the professionalism of security agencies and extended best wishes to Muslims in Kano for a safe and joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
