Nasir El-Rufai turned up at 9.30am with DSS and police in tow, but the judge still had to call it a day.
Monday morning at the Federal High Court in Kaduna was meant to be the next big sitting in the former governor's corruption case, and for once El-Rufai was actually there on time. The ICPC case against him centres on some pretty serious allegations, abuse of office, financial impropriety and fraud during his eight years running Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023.
The prosecution says public funds were released for projects that were either never executed, abandoned halfway, or just pushed through without following due process. They reckon it left the state out of pocket, and a couple of his former officials are in the dock with him.
Only problem? Those two co-defendants didn't show. With them missing, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa couldn't get on with the pending motions the defence team wanted to argue, so he simply adjourned everything.
New date: 24 June 2026.
El-Rufai, as ever, is denying the whole thing, insisting every contract and payment under his administration was done by the book. The court has already spent earlier sittings wrangling over bail conditions and preliminary applications, so Monday was supposed to move things along. Instead, it was a brief appearance and a new diary date.
Unsurprisingly, it's still drawing a crowd, given how prominent he is in national politics. We'll see if everyone actually turns up next time.
