Got weekend plans in Ekiti? If you're a civil servant, Friday just became a long weekend – all thanks to the governorship election.
Heads up, Ekiti! Friday is officially a day off for most public and civil servants, according to cbinews.tv.
The Ekiti State Government announced the work-free day on Thursday so workers can travel to their voting locations ahead of Saturday’s governorship election on 20 June 2026.
Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, said Governor Biodun Oyebanji gave the approval to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to participate in the polls. The idea is simple: no work, fewer excuses, more votes.
But not everyone gets to kick back. Permanent Secretary at the Office of Establishment, Dr Funke Ajibola, clarified that essential services are staying open. So, if you work at a hospital, health centre, fire service, or any other critical agency, it’s business as usual.
She’s asked heads of those institutions to sort out duty rosters, so services don’t skip a beat. CEOs and Accounting Officers have also been told to spread the word and make sure everyone complies.
The government wants essential public services running smoothly while the rest of the state gets ready to vote
