Ekiti decides on 20th June 2026 — will it be four more years for Governor Oyebanji or a shake-up at the Government House?
Alright, here’s the lowdown on the Ekiti governorship race, brought to you by cbinews.tv.
So, voters in Ekiti are heading to the polls on Saturday, 20th June 2026 to pick who runs the state for the next four years. The big question on everyone’s lips: continuity or change?
Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has been in charge since 16th October 2022. Now he’s asking for a second term. But will Ekiti people give it to him, or flip the script for someone new?
Quick-fire facts you should know before polling day:
Voter numbers
- 1,059,360 people are registered to vote in Ekiti State.
- Of those, 1,028,929 (97.13%) have picked up their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs). Proper turnout energy.
- That leaves 30,431 (2.87%) PVCs still uncollected.
Parties & candidates
- 14 out of 22 registered political parties are actually contesting.
- INEC cleared 14 candidates, but let’s be real — analysts say it’s a three-horse race: incumbent **Governor Biodun Oyebanji (APC), Dr. Wole Oluyede (PDP), and Dare Bejide (ADC).
How voting works
- There are 2,445 polling units across the state.
- The election covers 16 Local Government Areas and 177 wards.
- Polls open 8:30 am and close 2:30 pm, but if you’re already in the queue by 2:30 pm, you’ll still get to vote.
Other bits to note
- 4 women are running as deputy governorship candidates — on the ADP, APC, APM, and PRP tickets.
- Candidate ages range from 35 to 68, and yes, the oldest candidate is a woman.
- There’s been plenty of noise from Ekiti South Senatorial District** calling for the seat to rotate to them. Their point? Since Ekiti was created in 1996, power has mostly swung between the North and Central districts.
Once voting wraps up, INEC will collate results from all polling units before announcing the winner officially.
So, Ekiti — continuity or change? We’ll find out soon.
