Nearly everyone who registered in Ekiti is ready to vote, INEC says over 97% of PVCs are now in voters' hands.
The Independent National Electoral Commission says 1,028,929 out of 1,059,360 registered voters in Ekiti have collected their Permanent Voters' Cards. That's a tidy 97.1 per cent, and it is happening just days before the governorship poll this Saturday.
Mohammed Haruna, INEC's National Commissioner and chair of its Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed it in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja after the collection window closed.
Some context: after INEC paused the Continuous Voter Registration in the state on Thursday, 15 May and cleaned up the register, the voter roll jumped from 987,647 back in 2023 to 1,059,360 now. PVC collection has climbed too, from 958,052 (97.0 per cent) in 2023 to that 1.02 million figure today.
The collection was supposed to finish on 11 June, but after a chat with stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti, INEC pushed it to 14 June to give people a bit more time.
Haruna also flagged the replacements. Under Section 18(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, anyone who lost, damaged or defaced their card could apply for a new one. INEC got 14,406 applications, printed them all, and says most have already been picked up.
What about the promised downloadable PVC? Not this time. Haruna said the tech infrastructure is not quite ready, so you will still need the physical card for Ekiti. The digital option should be live for the Osun governorship in August 2026 and definitely for the 2027 general election.
He gave a shout-out to traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, political parties and the media for helping with mobilisation, and confirmed that every single PVC, including transfers and replacements, has been printed and made available.
If you love spreadsheets, INEC says a full LGA-by-LGA breakdown is already up on its website and social media pages.
The final word from Haruna: if you have got your PVC, please turn out peacefully on Saturday and vote. INEC is promising a free, fair, credible and inclusive election.
