With Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in full swing, Governor Sanwo-Olu has a timely message for Lagosians — and it’s all about faith, patience, and pulling together as one.
As reported by cbinews.tv, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sent warm Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims in Lagos and across Nigeria, and he’s using the moment to remind us all of what really matters — sacrifice, peace, and unity.
In a statement shared on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor said the festival isn’t just about celebration. It’s a powerful reminder of faith, patience, and the need to keep our communities tight-knit.
He pointed to the story of Prophet Ibrahim, saying Eid-el-Kabir shows us what happens when you stay faithful and patient even when times are tough. “This symbolic Islamic festival is a reminder to us that there will always be great rewards when we have abiding faith and patience in trying periods, with persistence in prayers, and tenacity in our belief,” Sanwo-Olu said.
But he didn’t stop at the spiritual side. The governor stressed that sacrifice goes beyond religion — it’s key if we want to see real progress for people and for Nigeria as a whole. “It also reminds us of the sacrifice we are expected to make not only for the purpose of spiritual fulfilment but also for the progress of mankind and development of our society,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu also made a direct appeal: let’s take a cue from Prophet Ibrahim and ditch anything that could break our unity or shake the country’s stability. “I want to appeal to all Lagos residents and Nigerians to draw lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s examples by eschewing tendencies that could severe the unity and stability in the country,” he noted.
Wrapping up, he called on Nigerians to back the federal government’s development plans under President Bola Tinubu, saying nation-building isn’t a one-man job — we’ve all got a part to play.
