Al Ahly star punished after post match altercation in Egyptian Pro League clash.
Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy has been handed a four match suspension after striking a referee following a 1-1 draw with Ceramica Cleopatra in the Egyptian Pro League.
CBI News reports that the Egypt international, who was on the bench during Tuesday’s match, became angry after Al Ahly were not awarded a penalty for a stoppage time handball appeal.
“A four match ban and fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds for assaulting the referee by pushing or pulling, use of the hand without violence,” the league said in a statement confirming the punishment.
The 37 year old was Egypt’s first choice goalkeeper at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and is expected to be included in the squad for the upcoming World Cup in North America.
He will now miss several matches and is expected to return during the final stages of the league play offs, when the top seven teams compete in the Championship round.
Defending champions Al Ahly sit third after one match in the play offs with 41 points, five points behind league leaders Zamalek.
