Drama in Osun as the EFCC freezes the state government's main account used to pay workers' salaries, and Governor Adeleke says he is heading straight to court.

There is fresh tension between Osun State and the anti-graft agency.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has frozen the Osun State Government's statutory allocation account domiciled with First Bank over an ongoing investigation into the state's finances.

Governor Ademola Adeleke made this known during a press conference in Osogbo, where he described the move as a calculated attempt to cripple his administration.

According to the governor, the EFCC had earlier invited several top government officials for questioning and requested clarification on some government transactions. But freezing the allocation account, he argued, goes far beyond the commission's legal powers.

Governor Adeleke insists the action is politically motivated and designed to frustrate his second-term ambition. He says the state will challenge it in court.

The affected account has now been placed under a Post-No-Debit (PND) restriction. What that means is simple - money can enter, but no withdrawals or payments can be made from it until the investigation is concluded. The worry is that this is the same account used to pay workers' salaries.

Giving more details, the State Commissioner for Finance, Olusola Ogungbile, revealed that some staff members of First Bank have been arrested by the EFCC and later handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation.

On the legal front, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimoh Bada, said the state government has already directed its legal team to challenge the EFCC's action at the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
