The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Nigerian Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.
CBI News reports that in a notice published on Saturday, the anti-graft agency said Farouq is being sought in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct linked to her time in office under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the EFCC, the 52-year-old former minister, who hails from Zamfara State, last resided at EN 008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja.
The commission urged members of the public with useful information about her whereabouts to contact any of its offices nationwide, the nearest police station, or reach out through its official communication channels.
Farouq served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development from 2019 to 2023, overseeing several major government intervention and social investment programmes.
The development marks a major twist in ongoing investigations into the management of public funds within the humanitarian ministry during the Buhari administration.
