If you have children in Ososo or Makeke, this is the update you need to hear today: classes have stopped, but exams will not.
According to details published by cbinewstv, the Edo State Government has ordered the immediate, temporary closure of three public secondary schools in Akoko Edo Local Government Area over security concerns.
The schools affected are:
Ososo Grammar School, Ososo
Ososo Comprehensive High School, Ososo
Makeke Secondary School, Makeke
The closure, which took effect on 9 June 2026, follows intelligence of a possible abduction plot, and will stay in place "until further notice".
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Dr Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the government said all teaching, learning and other school-related activities are now suspended. The three schools were shut after security agencies flagged a potential threat to students.
Here is the important bit for parents with exam candidates: students currently writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will still be allowed into their centres. The government says they will sit their papers under enhanced security arrangements organised by school management, security agencies and community stakeholders.
Principals have been told to:
hand pupils over to their parents and guardians in an orderly manner
safeguard all school property throughout the closure
stay in close contact with government officials and security authorities
The state government is also appealing for calm. Residents are asked to remain law-abiding, stay alert, and support the security agencies working to restore peace, with a promise that normal academic activities will resume once the situation improves.
