Edo Govt Issues Power Licences for 100MW Ikpoba-Okha Project

Big light is coming to Edo! The state government says its ambitious 100-megawatt power project is charging ahead and could be switched on before the year runs out.
In case you missed it, Edo State is getting serious about fixing its power supply.
According to cbinews.tv, the Edo State Government has officially issued transmission and distribution licences to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited for the much-talked-about 100MW power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The news was confirmed by the Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, in a statement released in Benin City on Saturday.
Usenbo revealed that the company has now been presented with its certificate of licence for electricity transmission, and — here’s the exciting part — the project has already smashed its first-phase targets which wrapped up in July 2026.
So what’s next?
He explained that relevant government authorities have been providing technical guidance and regulatory support to make sure the developers stick to all the required standards and assessments. With phase one now in the bag, all eyes are on the second and final phase.
“The expectation is that CCETC Ogua Energy Limited will complete the remaining phase of the 100-megawatt power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area and proceed to commissioning by the end of 2026,” the Commissioner said.
“The state government has also issued transmission and distribution licences to the company as the state expects the project will be completed this year.”
The Commissioner added that most of the major milestones should be substantially achieved by October 2026, barring any unforeseen hitches or regulatory bottlenecks.
And if there are delays? The government says it’s got the developers covered.
“If there are any challenges faced by this project, I will give an extension of time,” Usenbo assured, noting that the deadline could be pushed to Q1 2027 if necessary.
Still, he remains pretty optimistic, pointing to the level of work already done on site and the steady arrival and installation of power-generation equipment.
Fingers crossed, Edo could be saying goodbye to darkness very soon.
