Worried about those Ebola reports from Central Africa? Oyo State says keep calm – they’ve already switched on the emergency playbook.
So, here’s the latest from Oyo State, as reported by cbinews.tv: the government wants everyone to breathe easy. Yes, there’ve been Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a few confirmed cases in Uganda, but right now? Not a single case in Nigeria. And Oyo isn’t taking any chances.
Health Commissioner Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi said the state is already in “prevention mode.” Basically, they’re watching things closely and have fired up all the health safety measures just in case. According to her, Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration is putting public health right at the top of the to-do list – no surprises there.
What does that actually mean on the ground? Disease surveillance has been beefed up across all 33 Local Government Areas. Hospitals and clinics? On high alert. The Rapid Response Teams, labs, Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers – the whole crew – are mobilised and ready to jump into action if needed.
They’ve even reactivated the Ebola Virus Disease Technical Working Group. Fancy name, but it just means the experts are meeting, prepping, and making sure every “preparedness pillar” is solid.
Dr Ajetunmobi is asking health workers, private and public hospitals, community leaders, religious leaders – basically everyone – to stay sharp. If you spot someone with sudden fever, serious weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, unexplained bleeding, or they’ve just come back from one of the affected countries, report it fast.
The key message: there’s no Ebola in Oyo or Nigeria right now. So, no need to panic. But staying prepared is how we keep it that way.
The state’s also working hand-in-hand with the Federal Ministry of Health, NCDC, WHO and other partners to keep everyone safe.
As Dr Ajetunmobi put it: “Vigilance, preparedness, and collective responsibility” – that’s the game plan.
