The numbers are climbing faster than aid can land, and the WHO says the Bundibugyo strain is not slowing down.
World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda is still outpacing efforts to contain it, cbinews.tv reports.
He was quick to add that the global risk from the outbreak remains low. But he also called for containment measures to be scaled up further to tackle the rare Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
The epicentre is in Congo. So far, 1,094 confirmed cases have been recorded there, including 277 deaths. Uganda has confirmed 20 cases and two deaths.
A senior WHO official said on Tuesday that this outbreak has already logged the largest number of confirmed cases within the first month of any Ebola episode on record.
