Late on Sunday, the Democratic Republic of Congo confirmed a sobering update in its ongoing Ebola outbreak. The number of confirmed cases has now climbed past the 1,000 mark, reaching 1,003 in total, according to officials.
That figure includes 254 deaths linked to the virus.
The jump is stark when you look back just one day. In its Saturday update, the government reported 956 confirmed cases and 247 deaths, meaning 47 new cases and 7 additional fatalities were recorded in 24 hours, cbinews.tv reports.
