Pahlavi declares regime effectively ended following reports that Ali Khamenei was killed...
Exiled son of Iran’s last shah, Reza Pahlavi, on Saturday welcomed reports that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had been killed, declaring that the Islamic Republic was effectively finished.
In a message posted on 𝕏, Pahlavi said the regime that replaced his pro-Western father had reached its end.
“With his death, the Islamic Republic has effectively come to an end and will soon be consigned to the dustbin of history,” he wrote.
CBI News reports that he warned against any move to appoint a successor to Khamenei and urged members of Iran’s military, security and police forces not to support what he described as a collapsing government.
“To the military, security and police forces any effort to prop up a collapsing regime is doomed to defeat,” Pahlavi stated.
The former crown prince, who has presented himself as a possible transitional figure but does not enjoy unanimous backing among opposition groups, also called on citizens to remain alert as developments unfold.
He urged Iranians to “stay vigilant,” while indicating that wider mobilisation could soon follow.
“The time for a massive and decisive presence in the streets is very near,” he said.
“Together, united and steadfast, we will secure the final victory, and we will celebrate Iran’s freedom across our homeland created by Ahura,” Pahlavi added, invoking Iran’s pre-Islamic Zoroastrian heritage.
