Drivers demand fare review and lower commissions as fuel costs bite, warn of switch to alternative platforms within 72 hours.
Commercial drivers under the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), Rivers State Chapter, stormed the Nigeria Labour Congress office, demanding intervention over what they escribed as unfair commission hikes by Bolt, Uber, and InDrive.
CBI News correspondent Abiodun Yusuf reports that the drivers accused these firms of "slavery" amid soaring fuel costs.
Carrying different placards calling for app pricing to match economic realities, the protesters marched from Yakubu Gowon Stadium to the NLC state secretariat.
Drivers told newsmen the companies refused to raise fares or cut commissions despite fuel price surges, insisting per-kilometer rates and minimum fares must change.
Presenting the union's petition, AUATON State Chairman Lawrencia Chioma-Ogu decried the "enslavement" by these foreign apps, which she says is causing severe hardship. She issued a 72-hour ultimatum for pricing reviews or the union will switch to the Diamond Fleet app and urged NLC intervention.
For his part, NLC State Chairman Alex Agwanwor addressed the drivers, pledging solidarity, and prompt action, while advising the use of alternative apps.
The drivers dispersed peacefully, awaiting the NLC's response before the ultimatum expires.
