The government vows rebels will 'meet same fate' as past militias
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Communication Minister Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, on Thursday, November 27, 2015, repeated Kinshasa’s accusation that Rwanda is 'behind the M23 rebel group'.
It insisted the claim was widely recognised by the international community.
“We all know that the M23 is a creation of Rwanda. We all also know that Rwanda has always denied creating the M23. The father who denies the son. But we also all know that all United Nations reports and all intelligence reports by Western governments say that the 'Father', Rwanda, is the creator of the 'Son', the M23,” Muyaya told reporters in Kinshasa.
“We know how complementary their roles are in terms of committing crimes, perpetuating massacres, and continuing the plunder,” he alleged.
The minister suggested that the trajectory of M23 ultimately echoed that of earlier armed groups, which included the RCD, which he said disappeared after being used.
“Before the current sons, there were other sons [...] where is the RCD today? They were even more powerful than the current sons and occupied much more territory at the time. So you can already see what awaits everyone,” he added.
Katembwe's remarks followed accusations from Corneille Nangaa, leader of the Congo River Alliance (AFC), who claimed the Congolese army launched ' offensives' in North and South Kivu, in violation of the Doha ceasefire signed in July 2025.
