Big twist in Diezani’s legal battle — a UK court says she’s clear, and now she wants the Abuja court to see it too.
So, here’s the latest from Abuja, according to cbinews.tv. On Wednesday, the Federal High Court gave former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke the green light to table some pretty important paperwork in her ongoing case with the EFCC.
What paperwork? Evidence that she was actually discharged and acquitted by the Southwark Crown Court in London back on June 17. The UK court cleared her of those bribery allegations, and now she wants Justice Inyang Ekwo to take a look.
Her lawyer, Godwin Iyinbor, brought the motion to file a supplementary affidavit showing the “fresh and material development” from the UK. Interestingly, the EFCC’s counsel, Mofesomo Oyetibo, SAN, didn’t even oppose it — though he did tell the court he thought the move was just to waste judicial time. “They just want to bring to your lordship’s attention that the applicant has been exonerated in the UK,” he said.
Justice Ekwo asked point-blank if EFCC was objecting. They weren’t. So, he granted the motion and pushed the case to October 6. On that date, the court will hear both the preliminary objection and the main suit together.
This all ties back to Diezani’s suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/21/2023, where she’s trying to reclaim assets the EFCC had forfeited.
