APC says Wike not party member despite backing candidates in FCT polls.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is not a member of the party, despite his open support for its candidates in the recently concluded FCT area council elections.
CBI News reports that Wike, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), actively campaigned for APC candidates and played a key role in their victories.
In the elections conducted across the Federal Capital Territory, the APC won five of the six local government chairmanship seats.
Ahead of the polls, Wike had publicly pledged support for candidates aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, a move that sparked widespread debate about his political loyalty.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, was asked how the party would respond if Wike were a member of the APC while working for another party, an action often described as anti-party activity.
Morka declined to speculate.
“No, listen, you’re asking for me to speculate, and I will not speculate. That question is for the PDP. You should direct that question to the PDP as to how they organize their party, how they treat their members, how they handle matters like this in the Peoples Democratic Party,” he said.
“I cannot speculate, you know, on a matter that rests exclusively within the party.”
While acknowledging Wike’s contribution to the APC’s performance in the FCT elections, Morka maintained that the minister’s political affiliation remains unchanged, reiterating that he is not a member of the ruling party.
