FG reassures Borno residents as defence ministers inspect security operations...
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, visited Maiduguri, Borno State, where they reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East region.
CBI News reports that the ministers said the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to tackling insurgency and stabilising communities affected by renewed security threats.
The visit was part of an operational tour aimed at assessing the evolving security situation, particularly following the recent resurgence of insurgent activities in the region.
Upon arrival at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Maiduguri, the ministers were received by the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, Major General A.E. Abubakar, alongside other senior military officers.
The visit began with a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at his palace.
During the visit, the ministers conveyed the sympathy of the Federal Government to the people of Borno State over recent security challenges.
“We are here to commiserate with the Government and people of Borno State, and to directly assess the situation on the ground,” the ministers said.
“With your continued support and prayers, we are confident that lasting peace and stability will be achieved.”
In his response, the Shehu of Borno expressed appreciation for the visit, highlighting the complex cross-border dimension of the insurgency affecting the region.
The monarch also reaffirmed the continued support of the Borno Emirate Council for the Nigerian military in its efforts to restore peace.
The ministers also visited the Borno State Government House, where they were received by the Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
During the meeting, the ministers commiserated with the state government and appreciated its continued support for military operations in the fight against insurgency.
The deputy governor, in turn, commended the Federal Government and the Armed Forces for their resilience and sacrifices in defending the nation.
He also extended condolences to families of military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
As part of their activities, the ministers paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Military Cemetery in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
The ceremony honoured officers and soldiers who died while defending the country against insurgent groups.
At the Theatre Command Headquarters, the ministers received an operational briefing from the Theatre Commander and inspected the Command and Control Centre.
They also commissioned newly renovated Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ Quarters and Combat Battalion Quarters within the headquarters.
While addressing troops, the ministers conveyed a message from President Bola Tinubu, praising the courage and dedication of soldiers deployed in the North-East.
They urged the troops to intensify efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability across Borno State, the wider North-East region, and Nigeria as a whole.
