You know Osun election day is never complete without small drama from Davido, and he has delivered again.
Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted to the reported victory of the Accord Party in the hometown of former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the ongoing governorship election, cbinews. tvtv reports.
Taking to his official X account on Saturday, August 15 2026, as results began trickling in from polling units, the singer did not hold back at all.
“We dey flog Oyetola for him hometown”, he wrote.
Why is this result such a big deal? Because this is personal and political.
Oyetola is not just any former governor. He governed Osun from 2018 to 2022 after that dramatic rerun election that is still talked about in Nigerian political history. His hometown is Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area, which has always been seen as an APC stronghold. For the Accord Party to flip it, if the early reports are confirmed, is symbolic.
And then there is the family link. Davido is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking reelection this time on the platform of the Accord Party after his 2022 victory under the PDP. The Adeleke family and Oyetola have been political rivals for years, with Osun often split between Ede, where the Adelekes command massive loyalty and the Iragbiji and Osogbo axis.
This election is happening across all 30 LGAs in Osun, a state with over 1.9 million registered voters. Historically, Osun governorship polls are tight and emotional. From the 2014 battle between Rauf Aregbesola and Iyiola Omisore to the 2018 rerun to Adeleke's victory in 2022 that ended APCs 12 year hold on the state, Osun always brings the heat.
Right now, results are still coming in from polling units being shared by party agents, observers and voters on the ground. Davido's comment just added extra entertainment to an already tense collation.
Of course, as we all know, the only results that truly matter are the ones officially declared by INEC.
