Osun decides today, and Davido says he is being locked out.
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, claimed early Saturday that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering Osun State as it holds its governorship election. He posted on his verified X account that every citizen has the right to movement, cbinews.tv reports.
The claim came hours after police announced a statewide restriction of movement from midnight Friday, August 14 until 6 pm Saturday, August 15 2026. It is standard for off-cycle polls with thousands of officers deployed to secure the vote.
Context matters. Davido is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term now under the Accord Party. Adeleke lost narrowly in 2018 to Gboyega Oyetola, then won in 2022, which placed Osun among eight states with off-cycle elections due to tribunal rulings. He now faces Bola Oyebamiji of the APC among others, and Davido has been central to his campaign.
Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad called the post dramatic, noting that the restriction was widely announced and lawful for a peaceful and credible poll.
The post has drawn mixed reactions online between those citing routine security checks and those worried about targeting a high-profile backer of the incumbent.
