Celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest has opened up about how he strayed from his late mother’s dream of him becoming a Catholic priest.

In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, he revealed that his mother prayed for over six years before having her first son, Onyinyechukwu, a name meaning “Gift from God.” CBI News understands that barely a year later, she gave birth to him under difficult circumstances and named him Chibuike, which means “God is my strength.”

Chief Priest explained that his mother, in gratitude, had promised God that her child would serve Him, hence her strong desire for him to join the Catholic priesthood.

“Growing up my mom wanted me to be a Catholic priest so bad because she promised God that her child will serve God while she searched for the fruit of the womb for over 6 years. She had my big brother first & named him Onyinyechukwu (Gift from God). Then one year & some months later she had me out of so much complications so she named me Chibuike (God is my strength),” he wrote.

He admitted that he had once tried to pursue admission into the seminary but was unsuccessful, and for a long time, he carried the guilt of disappointing his mother’s wish.

The entertainer added that next year will mark ten years since his mother’s death, a loss that turned out to be a major turning point in his life. He said her passing reshaped his story from family and friendships to career, fame, and wealth.

“I did my best to gain admission to the seminary. But I couldn’t make it to Catholic priesthood because many are called but few are chosen. Next year will make it 10 years I lost my mom & everyone who really knows my real story will testify that after my mom made it to heaven my story changed for good. Everyday I live with the guilt that I disappointed my mama by not becoming a Catholic priest, she wanted to be called Mama Father but rather I became the ChiefPriest,”.

To honour her memory, Cubana Chief Priest revealed he has recorded a Catholic thanksgiving song produced by Masterkraft and featuring rapper Zoro. He promised to release the track soon.

“But fact remains that I’m still doing God’s work. I had to do this thanksgiving Catholic Christian song to honor my late mom & also thank God for the numerous blessings that have come my way. Cubana Chief Priest is an icon in the entertainment industry, and his mum will be remembered for birthing a child so admired by others.
