Driving without number plates in Abia? The police are coming for your car — and CP Danlandi Isa says no excuses will fly.
Right, so here’s the gist from cbinews.tv — Abia’s top cop isn’t messing about.
Commissioner of Police Danlandi Isa has told all officers in Abia State Command to impound any vehicle rolling around without number plates, or with plates deliberately covered up. And it doesn’t stop at just seizing them. He’s ordered thorough investigations into each case and said they must be properly prosecuted in court. No half measures.
The directive came down on Thursday in Umuahia while CP Isa was briefing his strategic officers — think Area Commanders, DPOs, VCRU Commanders and Heads of Department. He was basically giving them the rundown from that recent senior officers’ conference with the Inspector-General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Turns out, this whole thing is coming straight from the top. The IGP, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is the one who issued the initial directive to clamp down on plate-less vehicles.
But CP Isa had more to say. He warned officers to stay sharp and keep Abia secure, especially now we’re in rainy season. Apparently, criminals like to take advantage of the weather, so he’s told his men to take the fight directly to their hideouts and ditch any form of complacency.
He did give credit where it’s due though — praised officers for their hard work keeping law and order. Still, he’s pushing them to do more, and to stay civil, professional, and respectful while on duty. Big emphasis on human rights too. He made it clear that suspects’ rights must be protected during investigations, and that policing should be intelligence-led.
One final note: he told the senior officers to keep discipline tight and make sure everyone remembers Force Order 237 — basically, the rules on when you can and can’t use firearms.
