The cases at both courts are being prosecuted by the anti-corruption commission..
The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Wednesday.
CBI News reports that the adjournment was confirmed shortly after Tuesday’s court session by counsel to the former governor, Ukpong Akpan Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who declined to give detailed comments, citing ongoing legal processes.
Following the session, El-Rufai was taken away from the court premises by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in a white Hilux vehicle.
Earlier, the former governor had returned to the Federal High Court under tight security for the hearing of his bail application in an ongoing corruption trial.
CBI News reports that the heavy security presence mirrors the situation during his earlier arraignment before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
El-Rufai was produced in court after spending over a month in detention, a development that has continued to draw significant public attention.
CBI News recalls that El-Rufai had earlier been released on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother in Cairo, Egypt.
In a related development, El-Rufai was also arraigned earlier on Tuesday before a Kaduna State High Court on separate charges alongside one Amadu Sule.
The charges include alleged abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
With the latest adjournment, the hearing on the bail application is now expected to continue on Wednesday.
