At 78, most managers are long retired — but Claude Le Roy clearly didn’t get the memo. The French football nomad is back for another dance with Congo.
According to cbinews.tv, veteran French coach Claude Le Roy is back in African football after being named the new head coach of the Republic of Congo.
And when we say veteran, we mean it. At 78 years old, Le Roy is taking charge of the Red Devils for a second time, having first led them between 2013 and 2015. This marks his 12th national team appointment — the man has basically collected African dugouts like Panini stickers.
His CV is a tour of the continent: Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana, Togo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, plus three non-African sides for good measure. You’d struggle to find anyone who knows African football quite like him.
He won’t be going it alone either. Former Senegal international Omar Daf is joining him as assistant, bringing plenty of know-how from his time with top French clubs.
The job ahead? Rebuild a competitive Red Devils squad and get Congo back to the Africa Cup of Nations next year. No pressure, then.
