Fancy some good news on the international front? Beijing says it’s stepping in to help Iran and Lebanon get back on their feet.
As reported by cbinews.tv, China has announced it will be sending humanitarian aid to both Iran and Lebanon, describing the situation in the two countries as a ‘humanitarian disaster’.
Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China was “deeply saddened by the humanitarian disaster” caused by the wars in Iran and Lebanon.
“Considering the real situation in the relevant countries, China has decided to offer humanitarian aid to Iran and Lebanon… to further assist the people there in recovery and reconstruction as well as improving their economy and livelihood,” Lin told cbinews.tv.
This isn’t the first time Beijing has stepped up. It’s actually the second aid package China has offered Tehran since the US and Israel began military action against Iran on 28 February – the first lot went out back in March.
The announcement lands just as the US and Iran have agreed on a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding to try and end the war. A signing ceremony is set for Friday in Switzerland.
