It’s a massive punishment for the Blues, but there’s a twist: it was Chelsea’s own owners who blew the whistle.

So, big news coming out of Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been slapped with a £10 million fine and a suspended two-window registration ban after being found guilty of multiple breaches of the Football Association’s rules around football agents and third-party investment in players.

And according to cbinews.tv, the whole case came to light because the current ownership self-reported the issues after they completed their takeover of the club.

In a statement released on Friday, the FA confirmed the sanctions, saying: “A financial sanction of £10 million and a suspended two-window registration ban have been imposed on Chelsea FC for breaches of The Football Association Football Agent Regulations, Regulations on Working with Intermediaries and Third Party Investment in Players Regulations.”

The Blues admitted to 74 breaches of FA Rule E1.2 before an independent Regulatory Commission. The FA also made it clear that investigations into the individuals connected to the case are still ongoing.

“The FA charged Chelsea FC with 74 breaches of FA Rule E1.2 after its current ownership self-reported misconduct upon its purchase of the club. The FA is continuing to investigate individual misconduct arising out of this case,” the statement added, as reported by cbinews.tv.

Here’s where it gets interesting. The Regulatory Commission had initially handed Chelsea a suspended six-point deduction until 30th June 2027, alongside the £10 million fine. Chelsea appealed that part.

The Appeal Board overturned the points deduction and replaced it with something else.

“The club appealed against the suspended points deduction and an independent Appeal Board allowed the appeal and set aside this sanction following a further hearing. In its place, the Appeal Board imposed a registration ban for two complete and consecutive transfer windows, which is suspended until 30 June 2027,” the FA explained.

So for now, Chelsea can still sign players, but if they slip up again before June 2027, that two-window ban kicks in.

The £10 million fine itself was not appealed, and the FA says every penny will go straight into grassroots football.

All the breaches relate to the period before the current owners took charge, but were disclosed by the new regime in a move that has now drawn a line under the old era.
