Chelsea are set for a new era at Stamford Bridge as former Liverpool and Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso edges closer to becoming the club’s next manager.
Chelsea have reportedly reached a full agreement to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager, according to cbinews.tv.
The former Liverpool midfielder is said to have accepted the Stamford Bridge job after holding talks in London earlier this month following Liam Rosenior’s exit.
Reports say a four-year contract is now being finalised, with an official announcement expected soon.
Before Chelsea settled on Alonso, former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was also considered for the role.
Alonso, 44, has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in January, despite signing a three-year deal with the Spanish giants less than a year earlier.
The Spaniard made headlines during his time at Bayer Leverkusen after guiding the club to their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season without losing a single league game.
As a player, Alonso enjoyed a successful spell in the Premier League with Liverpool, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2005.
Chelsea decided to part ways with Rosenior in April after a disappointing run that included five straight Premier League defeats.
