The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed viral reports claiming it plans to introduce a ₦5,000 banknote featuring President Bola Tinubu’s portrait.
In a statement, the apex bank described the widely circulated design as “fake” and urged Nigerians to disregard it. The CBN reiterated that it has not approved the issuance of a ₦5,000 note and warned the public against misinformation about the country’s currency.
The fake note, which has been trending on social media, shows Tinubu’s face and has sparked debate online. The CBN advised citizens to rely only on official channels for updates on currency matters.
