He's been out of public view for 58 days, and in Yaoundé, everyone is asking the same question: where is President Paul Biya?

So, what's really happening in Cameroon right now? If you pick up a newspaper in Yaoundé or hop into a taxi, there's only one story on everyone's lips – the President has vanished from public life.

As reported by cbinews.tv, Paul Biya hasn't been seen in public for a staggering 58 days, and the mood in the capital is shifting from curiosity to genuine concern.

Not everyone is panicking, though. For some, like Yaoundé resident Abdou Salam Njoya, it's still a case of trust.

“If he is away, there is certainly a good reason. We trusted him to manage the country, and we remain confident in that. We hope everything is fine and that his absence will bring us good news."

But for many others, that reassurance is wearing thin. The absence feels unprecedented, and people are starting to feel the gap at the top.

One resident, Tchoffo Jule, linked it to the country's recent poor exam results, saying: “The children took their exams and had very poor results. He should have been there to guide us and guide this young generation, to ask why these results were so weak, but unfortunately he is not here.”

Another, Majesté Arouna, was even more blunt: “It has been almost two months now. We don’t know whether our president is alive or not, and this makes us even more uncomfortable.”

And that's the bigger picture here. According to political analyst Cyrille Tchamba, speaking to cbinews.tv, this isn't just about one man's holiday. With no new government formed since the October 2025 presidential election and growing confusion inside the administration, Cameroon is staring at some serious institutional challenges.

“It is normal that, as we are now talking about 58 days of his absence from the country, Cameroonians are asking what this absence really means, especially because the government has shown signs of confusion. There is a heavy silence among Cameroonians when it comes to thinking about what comes after Biya. Today, we must acknowledge and address this,” Tchamba said.

As we approach the two-month mark, there’s still no word on when – or if – Biya is coming back. Recent military appointments have only added to the speculation about what comes next.

For now, one thing is clear: the silence from Etoudi is getting louder by the day.
