CAF sanctions Cameroon football chief over behaviour during quarter final defeat.
Former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has been handed a four match ban and fined $20,000 after being found guilty of misconduct by a Confederation of African Football disciplinary panel.
Caf said Eto’o, now president of Cameroon’s football federation, breached principles of sportsmanship during the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations quarter final between Cameroon and hosts Morocco.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward was seen reacting angrily to officiating decisions as Cameroon lost 2 0 in Rabat. Caf president Patrice Motsepe was also present at the match.
Earlier this week, Caf announced an investigation into violent confrontations and unacceptable behaviour involving players and officials during the tournament’s quarter final stage.
Cameroon’s football federation rejected the ruling, saying the disciplinary process raised serious concerns about fairness. In a later statement, it voiced support for Eto’o and indicated he is likely to appeal.
CBI News reports that Eto’o, who became federation president in 2021, has faced repeated controversy during his tenure, with critics alleging poor governance and misconduct.
He has consistently denied the claims, pointing to reforms and achievements under his leadership.
