The Bundesliga club parts ways with the Danish coach despite last year’s remarkable survival run and historic sixth-place finish.
Bundesliga side Mainz announced Wednesday that they had parted ways with coach Bo Henriksen, with the team stuck at the bottom of the table after managing just one win this season.
The 50-year-old Dane took charge in February 2024 with Mainz nine points from safety and improbably kept them in the top flight, losing only two of their final 13 matches.
Henriksen later guided Mainz to sixth place in the league, matching the club’s best-ever finish and earning a spot in the Conference League.
Mainz, a Bundesliga fixture since 2009–10, has long been a launching pad for top coaching talent.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and current England manager Thomas Tuchel both began their coaching careers there, while Bayer Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand also started his Bundesliga journey with the club.
