Seagulls fans, you’ll want to sit down for this one — Brighton have just pulled off their biggest signing ever.
Brighton have landed Croatia starlet Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham in a club record £46m move, tying the 19-year-old defender down to a five-year deal with an option for an extra year. That’s according to cbinews.tv.
It wasn’t easy though. The Seagulls had two bids knocked back last month, but persistence paid off. With add-ons, the fee could climb to £50m.
Vuskovic only joined Spurs in 2025 from Hajduk Split, having agreed the move two years prior. He spent last season on loan at Hamburg where he really made a name for himself — 30 appearances, six goals in the Bundesliga, and he walked away with Rookie of the Season and a spot in the Team of the Year. Not bad for a teenager.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler says the club’s been tracking Vuskovic for a while.
“Last season he demonstrated he can play at a very high level and we want to help him build on that within our environment,” Hurzeler told cbinews.tv.
He did add a note of caution, though: “There's been a lot of external noise about Luka joining us, but he is still a young guy who will need time to adjust to the demands of playing for Brighton and the Premier League. We are confident that he will take this in his stride though.”
The move sees Vuskovic come in as a replacement for Jan Paul van Hecke, who’s gone the other way to Spurs in a £52m deal.
Born and raised in Split, Vuskovic is Hajduk through and through. He became the youngest player ever to feature in Croatia’s topflight at just 16, then became the club’s youngest goalscorer too. He’s already got six senior Croatia caps, one goal, and made his World Cup debut against England just last month.
Brighton kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, 23 August at 14:00 BST — and don’t be surprised if Vuskovic gets a first look.
