A major shake-up at JAMB as President Bola Tinubu names a 39-year-old Computer Engineering professor, Segun Aina, to take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), replacing Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment signals a fresh push towards digital transformation and institutional reform within Nigeria’s examination system.
cbinews.tv reports that Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is widely recognised for his expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and public-sector reforms.
Interestingly, the academic, who turns 40 in July, is set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
The Presidency described him as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, highlighting his strong academic background and years of experience working on technology-driven reforms across government institutions.
Professor Aina earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, before obtaining both his MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Over the past 15 years, he has reportedly advised both federal and state governments on digital transition projects, institutional reforms and system design.
He has also worked with examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB, particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity initiatives.
The statement further noted that Aina belongs to several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new JAMB boss would build on the achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede’s leadership and further modernise the examination body.
