Bosnia Approves gas Project by linked to Donald Trump...
Bosnia approved on Wednesday a $1.5 billion energy project led by investors linked to Donald Trump, aimed at reducing the Balkan country’s dependence on Russian natural gas.
The project is being advanced by a newly formed company headed by Joseph Flynn, brother of former Trump adviser Michael Flynn, alongside Jesse Binnall, a former lawyer for Trump.
In addition to a pipeline, the initiative includes plans to build gas-fired power plants to cut reliance on coal in a country grappling with severe air pollution.
The legislation approving the project, known as the Gas Pipeline Southern Interconnection, was passed by the upper house of the Bosniak-Croat parliament, a week after clearing the lower chamber.
Bosnia is made up of two largely autonomous entities formed after the 1990s war: the Bosniak-Croat Federation, through which the pipeline will run, and Republika Srpska.
Environmental groups criticised the approval, with two non-governmental organisations urging lawmakers to reject what they described as a harmful project carrying “serious legal and financial risks”.
“One of the key decisions on Bosnia’s energy sector was made hastily, under enormous political pressure from the fossil fuel lobby of the US administration,” Nina Kresevljakovic of the Sarajevo-based Aarhus Centre NGO said after the vote.
Critics also questioned the credentials of the project developer, AAFS Infrastructure and Energy, noting it was established only in late 2025 and has no track record in projects of similar scale.
