It’s the end of the road for one of Boko Haram’s foot soldiers – and the court didn’t hold back.
So, here’s what went down in court, according to cbinews.tv. The Federal High Court in Abuja has handed a death sentence to Alkali Yarima, better known as La’ari, for his role in the 2015 terror attacks on Maiduguri, Borno State.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgement on Friday, June 26, 2026, and it was a long list. La’ari got death by hanging for actually participating in the Maiduguri attacks. But that’s not all.
He was also slammed with life imprisonment on count six – that’s for travelling to an Arab country to train in arms and weapons handling, all in preparation for terrorist acts. Then there’s a 35-year jail term under count one for being a member of Boko Haram between 2009 and 2015. Oh, and he even accepted “Da’awah” from the group’s founder, Mohammed Yusuf.
The judge added a 30-year sentence for count five, plus 10 years each for counts two, three, and four.
The federal government brought a seven-count charge against him, filed May 29 by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN). Yarima, with Chest Number 1636 from Lawanti Area, Mafa LGA in Borno, was found guilty under the Terrorism (Prevention Amendment) Act, 2013.
In short: death for the Maiduguri attacks, life for the weapons training abroad, and decades behind bars for his Boko Haram membership. The court made it clear – there’s no going back.
