Pastor Enoch Adeboye said Nigeria's security chiefs should wipe out terrorism in 90 days or resign. PDP elder Bode George says that's the wrong address , the memo should go straight to President Bola Tinubu.
So here's what happened.
On Friday, former PDP Deputy National Chairman Chief Olabode George pushed back hard after the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, called on the Federal Government to give Service Chiefs a three-month ultimatum to end terrorism or step down. Adeboye made the call in a video posted to his X handle on Tuesday.
George's take? Respectfully, Pastor, you're talking to the wrong people.
"Nobody is saying Pastor Adeboye should command the Commander-in-Chief. No. That is not even possible. But that advice should be directed at the President, not Service Chiefs," George said.
He used a newsroom analogy: you don't tell line editors to deliver front-page exclusives in 90 days or quit, you tell the Daily Editor. If the paper flops, it's the editor who enters the labour market. Same with security.
"The buck stops on the table of Tinubu, not the Service Chiefs. Tinubu appointed them. If they are not working, he has the power to give them an ultimatum or fire them."
Speaking as a retired General, George didn't mince words: "What is going on does not make any sense at all. It is arrant nonsense, absolute lunacy."
He listed the grim roll-call, the abduction of Adebayo Adelabu's sister and her twin sons in broad daylight in Ibadan, a former Army spokesman and his wife taken last week, pupils and teachers still in the forest, and asked, "Will there be a country in 2027?"
His solution is blunt and urgent:
President Tinubu should convene an emergency meeting of retired security chiefs and intelligence experts, with serving Service Chiefs in the room.
With proper intelligence gathering, the right weapons and equipment, "to deal with these characters should not be more than 60 days."
Demand a full review of Nigeria's security architecture, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and real accountability.
"The political leadership has relegated security issues to the background. They are only interested in primaries and politics. If the country is on fire, who will come out to vote in 2027?" he asked.
George insists this isn't partisan noise. "I am not talking like a typical politician but as a father, grandfather, husband and a responsible family man. My approach is humanitarian, compassionate and welfarist."
His final word: non-state actors cannot be more powerful than the state, and the Constitution is clear, the security of lives and property is the government's primary responsibility.
"Anybody supporting and financing terrorism should be made to face the music decisively within the confines of law. The lives of victims and their families matter. The life of an average Nigerian matters. Enough of this embarrassment."
