Benue SEMA Delivers Relief Materials to Mbalom Attacks' Victims

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) has delivered relief materials to victims of suspected armed herdsmen attacks in Mbatsada, Mbalom Council Ward of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.
A statement by Tema Ager, Information Officer, BSEMA revealed that he items were delivered on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, of the body, James Iorpuu, by the Programme Manager, IDPs Operations, Zegeh Orseer Gauis.
CBI News reports that the intervention according to him is in line with the Benue State Government’s commitment to providing prompt humanitarian assistance to communities affected by crises and disasters.
While presenting the relief materials, Gauis conveyed the sympathy of the State Government to the people and authorities of Mbalom over the unfortunate incident.
He reaffirmed BSEMA’s dedication to delivering timely support to persons affected by emergencies across the state, noting that the intervention was aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons in the area.
He further disclosed that the Agency had earlier, on Monday, April 6, 2026, conducted an on-the-spot assessment and damage evaluation in the affected communities to determine their immediate needs.
Gauis also offered prayers for the quick recovery of victims currently receiving treatment in hospitals.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Gwer East Local Government Area, Timothy Adi, represented by his Special Assistant on NGOs and Intergovernmental Affairs, Ngutiv Masev, commended the Benue State Governor for his prompt response in addressing the situation and restoring calm in the area.
He also appreciated the government, through BSEMA, for the timely food assistance.
Similarly, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Serumun Deborah Aber, represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Affairs, Akor Abiem, noted that the swift intervention by the Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, would help restore confidence among the people and encourage a return to normal farming activities.
She assured the communities of the government’s continued commitment to their safety and well-being.
In separate remarks, the Kindred Head of Mbatsada and District Head of Mbalom, Chief Iorpinen Gbakaan, and Chief Saakuma Tov, respectively, decried the renewed attacks on their communities, particularly during the farming season.
They appealed to the government to establish security outposts at vulnerable entry points frequently used by attackers.
Also speaking, Chief Pius Angegh Kuhe called on the state government to strengthen security in the affected communities and assured displaced persons of peaceful coexistence as efforts continue toward their safe return.
