Benue Assembly Suspends Sports Boss Over Corruption

The House has called for Upev's suspension to enable the state government to restructure the board for optimal performance.
The Benue State House of Assembly has recommended the indefinite suspension of Mr Michael Upev, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Sports Marketing and Lottery Board, over allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.
CBI News reports that the decision was made during a plenary session, following a report by the House Standing Committee on Finance, which uncovered several irregularities, including Upev's dual role as consultant to the board and owner of Upper Premier Service Limited.
The committee also found that Upev configured a payment solution platform, allowing him sole access and linking his company accounts as receiving accounts, with over ₦208 million received between September 2024 and July 2025.
The Benue State Agency for International Cooperation and Development Bill was passed into law- A bill to establish diabetes care and free treatment in the Ministry of Health was presented for first reading.
