Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, has played host to a crucial Extraordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation, bringing together top stakeholders to chart a new direction for football administration in the country.
Declaring the session open, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, praised the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu for his transformative impact on sports administration within a short period.
Governor Diri noted that the National Institute for Sports, previously under-recognized, has gained renewed relevance and visibility under Shaibu’s leadership, urging other public officials to adopt similar reform-driven approaches.
CBI News reports that the high-level meeting attracted key figures in the sector, including National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, NSC Director General Bukola Olopade, and lawmakers overseeing sports at the National Assembly, alongside football administrators from across the 36 states and the FCT.
Meanwhile, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusauin in his remarks emphasized unity and progressive reforms, highlighting the importance of the assembly in shaping the future of Nigerian football governance.
Deliberations at the congress focused on proposed amendments to key regulatory frameworks, as well as critical appointments, with observers from FIFA and CAF in attendance, signaling strong international interest in the outcome of the proceedings.
