As insecurity around schools continues to raise concerns nationwide, the Bauchi State Police Command has moved to strengthen protection for students and teachers with the inauguration of a Safe School task force.
The Bauchi State Police Command has inaugurated a Safe School Initiative Implementation Task Force aimed at improving security around schools and protecting students from rising threats such as kidnapping, banditry, cultism and drug abuse.
Speaking during the inauguration on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu said schools across the country have increasingly become targets of criminal activities capable of disrupting learning and creating fear among students, teachers and parents.
According to Aliyu, the initiative follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police for commands nationwide to strengthen school security through proactive policing, intelligence gathering, collaboration with other agencies and engagement with stakeholders.
He explained that the newly inaugurated committee in Bauchi is part of a nationwide effort to reinforce the Safe Schools Initiative and ensure schools remain safe environments for teaching and learning.
The police commissioner stressed that securing schools should not be left to security agencies alone, calling on all stakeholders to work together in identifying vulnerable areas, improving intelligence sharing and establishing effective emergency response systems.
Aliyu also urged members of the task force to approach their responsibilities with commitment, patriotism and a strong sense of duty.
