Mark your calendars, Bauchi. Your local government elections are officially happening, and the 60-day countdown has just started.
Right, here's the gist. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, has formally fixed Saturday, 17 August 2026 for the local government council polls.
The notice was signed by the Commission's Secretary, Nuru Abdulhamid, in a statement released on Friday in Bauchi. He said it's all by the book, in line with the Bauchi State Electoral Law that requires the commission to give political parties, stakeholders and the general public proper notice ahead of time.
Abdulhamid also pointed out that this isn't coming out of the blue. BASIEC had already issued a 360-day notice back in August 2025, so parties have had a full year to get ready.
His advice now is pretty straightforward: if you're a party planning to contest, finalise your internal processes, and stick strictly to the Electoral Law and BASIEC's guidelines.
He added that the full timetable, procedures and other key details will be released in due course.
And for reassurance, he restated the commission's promise to deliver a free, fair, transparent and credible election.
