North stand reopening allows more fans as stadium rebuild continues.
Barcelona announced Tuesday that it has obtained permission to open the north stand and expand the capacity of its partially rebuilt Camp Nou to nearly 63,000 spectators.
CBI News reports that the stadium had been closed for over two years due to construction delays, and fans were able to return in November with access to three of the four stands, providing a capacity of 45,000.
Barcelona will host Sevilla on Sunday in the first match using the increased capacity after the city council granted the necessary licence.
The Catalan club had originally planned to reopen the stadium in November 2024 to coincide with its 125th anniversary, but delays postponed the return by a year.
Construction will continue on the third level of the stadium, eventually increasing the capacity to 105,000 and adding a roof. The 1.5 billion euro project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.
