Hitmen sentenced for killing compatriot at tourist villa.
Two Australian hitmen were sentenced to 16 years in prison on Monday for shooting dead a fellow Australian over a debt dispute on Bali, Indonesia, last year.
A third man, convicted of organizing the attack on Zivan Radmanovic at a villa in Badung, was sentenced to 12 years by a court in Denpasar, where violent crime is rare and guns are tightly controlled.
Radmanovic was killed in June when gunmen burst into his villa and opened fire, seriously injuring 34-year-old Sanar Ghanim.
Gunmen Paea-I-Middlemore Tupou, 27, and Mevlut Coskun, 23, admitted being hired to collect a debt from Ghanim but did not reveal who hired them.
Darcy Jenson, 27, was found guilty of supplying weapons and planning the attack and was arrested at Jakarta airport while trying to flee. Tupou and Coskun were later returned to Bali from Cambodia to stand trial.
Judge I Wayan Suarta found Coskun and Tupou guilty of premeditated murder and illegal gun possession, and Jenson guilty of aiding and abetting. Prosecutors had sought longer sentences of 17 and 18 years.
Radmanovic’s wife and lawyer left the court without commenting. Gun crime is rare in Bali and Indonesia, and illegal gun possession carries strict penalties.
